Research Computing is canceling the planned maintenance activity scheduled for Monday, February 2, due to the impending storm. We will announce a reschedule date in the near future.

Our first scheduled maintenance of 2015 is planned for Monday, February 2, 2015. It will begin at 7AM and finish at 11AM, although we hope to have services up and available to you earlier.
During this time, the Odyssey cluster, scratch storage, and the RC ticketing service will be temporarily unavailable. Pending jobs will continue to pend during this period. The reservation put in place earlier should clear the cluster of all jobs; any jobs still running will be canceled. No data will be affected.
We will be doing the following:
1) Upgrade slurm, Odyssey's queuing software. This will result in increased robustness, bug fixes, and some additional commands. See http://slurm.schedmd.com/SC14/Slurm_14.11.pdf for details.
2) Upgrade Lustre client software. The Lustre filesystem is used in all our scratch filesystems and is critical to those who need large amounts of temporary storage for their research. We will be upgrading all the client parts of Lustre to improve performance and stability.
3) Tasks to improve RC's infrastructure. Our ticketing system and proxying software will all be upgraded and moved to more stable homes, as will our mail gateway.
4) Networking. Some networks will be consolidated to reclaim network IP numbers; we will also be doing maintenance (firmware updates) on RC firewalls.
Please remember that Research Computing is continuing to enforce data retention policies on all of RC's scratch filesystems (regal and holyscratch). All files that have not been accessed (read or written to) for the last 90 days will be deleted.
